Reverend Rick Clayton (ext. 1115) was appointed to Hayes Barton in June 2004. He began his ministry within the United Methodist Church in September 1977 as Youth Director of First United Methodist Church in Wilson, North Carolina. During his tenure in Wilson, Rick completed a Masters of Religious Education Degree from Southeastern and a Masters of Divinity from Duke University. He was appointed as associate minister to First Church during his nine year tenure. It was in this pastorate that Rick married Joy Butler from Clearwater, Florida. The two of them graduated from Atlantic Christian/Barton College. Joy majored in Music Education with a focus in voice. She started her teaching career at Greenfield School in Wilson. Their two children, Ryan and Alyson, were born in Wilson.

Rick has served as senior pastor at Saint Paul United Methodist in Rocky Mount, Louisburg United Methodist, Saint Francis United Methodist in Cary and now Hayes Barton. Beyond his ministry in the local church, Rick has chaired numerous boards and institutions within the North Carolina Conference. He served as chair of the board for the Methodist Home for Children during the addition of the Jordan Center, and his gifts were used by the North Carolina Annual Conference for seventeen years in developing annual themes, set designs and productions for the annual conference gatherings.

The Clayton family, which includes Ryan’s wife, Meredith, enjoys participating in the musical festivities/ministries here at Hayes Barton. Rick and Joy find laughter and good time loving on their two grandchildren, Maggie Leigh and Sibby.

Reverend Adam Charville (ext. 1124) was appointed as Associate Pastor to Hayes Barton UMC in July 2017. While in seminary, Adam served as a pastor during internships at Pleasant Union UMC in Liberty, NC, and Lemon Springs UMC near Sanford, NC. He has also completed an internship at Rex Hospital as a pastoral care chaplain. Adam holds the Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School, class of 2017.

Prior to following God’s calling to ministry, Adam was a golf course superintendent. That career began as a summer job when he was in high school and lasted until God’s calling became too evident to resist several years later. During his time working in this career, Adam studied at NC State University and NC A&T University and earned degrees in Turfgrass Management and Agricultural Education.  Adam and his wife, Jill, were married in 2011 and welcomed their first child in November 2017.

Molly grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!) in 2001 with a B.S. in History. After a year in Washington, D.C., she attended the School of Law at the University of Pittsburgh graduating with a J.D. in 2005.  She practiced law – mostly corporate real estate law – in Charleston, West Virginia, until moving to North Carolina in 2013 to attend Duke Divinity School.

Pastor Molly loves a good cup of tea and a great book. Molly’s husband Patrick (who is originally from Beckley, West Virginia) is an attorney practicing personal injury law in Durham. Their son Zeke was born in 2010. He enjoys soccer, Legos, Cub Scouts, and Harry Potter books. Their daughter Phoebe was born in 2012.  She loves soccer, Girl Scouts, horses, and music. The Whites enjoy vacationing on the North Carolina coast, having family nights on Fridays, and spending time with their goldendoodle George.
