Safe Sanctuaries

Volunteering to serve in one of our ministries is truly a gift to our church. Our Children’s and Youth Ministries rely heavily on the passion and dedication of hundreds of volunteer servants to provide a firm Christian education and spiritual foundation for all of our young disciples.

In adherence with the guidelines set forth by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church, Hayes Barton has adopted a Safe Sanctuaries policy for the general safety of children, youth, and other vulnerable persons and for the prevention of abuse in our church. The implementation of the policy demonstrates the commitment of Hayes Barton to continue to be a place where people of all ages can come together for worship, study, and service, with the assurance that they are safe and secure in the community of faith.

The policy requires that volunteers complete an application and authorization for a background check. The church is using a company called “Protect My Ministry” to run background checks on volunteers. It is a secure online system that provides efficiencies in timely reporting and record keeping.
