Since 2000, Mike Trexler (ext. 1119) has led the Creative Arts Ministry at Hayes Barton. In that time, he has grown the music and arts programs in size and scope so that today the church staffs four full-time positions to lead the vital Creative Arts Ministry. He has led three major church additions/renovations, including our organ installation.

When not at church, Mike enjoys singing in the North Carolina Master Chorale, serving on the NC State University College of Sciences Alumni Advisory Board, and leading mission and construction teams to Costa Rica, Haiti, and Guatemala.

Mike is married to NCSU alum Juli, an executive at IBM. Together they volunteer their time with sons Josh and Grant's school, music, and sports activities.

Stephen Aber (ext. 1116) joined the staff of Hayes Barton in March of 2015. His position as Assistant Director of Creative Arts includes leading weekly worship services from the organ console, designing church communication materials, and coordinating creative arts events.

Stephen comes to Hayes Barton having served churches and arts organizations in North Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. He also works as Operations Manager for North Carolina Master Chorale and offers freelance management and communications consultation as well. He has recently begun an active concert schedule, details available here.

Originally from Fayetteville, NC, Stephen is happy to be able to spend time with his immediate and extended family after almost a decade out of state.

Jerry Lachapelle joined Hayes Barton UMC in 1976. In 2005, she became the Wedding Coordinator and began overseeing all elements of the many weddings at Hayes Barton.

Before that, she held various roles in UMW, served as her Sunday School Class President, was a pianist in the Starnes Class, and worked on various committees. One of the things she enjoys most about planning and directing weddings is seeing the people, both near and far, come back to Hayes Barton to be married. Every wedding is like a homecoming!

In her work life, Jerry has served as an Executive Administrative Assistant and Meeting Planner to several companies in Research Triangle Park.

Jerry has been married to her husband, Dave, for 52 years.  They have two adult children, Craig and Jayme.
