Family Promise Week

The week of October 16 through October 23 has been designated Family Promise Week in an effort to bring attention to the crisis of family homelessness and the efforts to address it in communities across the country. Of particular concern is the fact that children and their families make up 40% of all homeless people and children themselves represent one out of every four homeless people. Since its formation in 1988, Family Promise Affiliates have served more than 700,000 men, women and children, and involved more than 180,000 volunteers in 6,000 congregations.

Here at Hayes Barton, we have the opportunity to assist Family Promise (formerly Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network – WIHN) and those whom it serves by volunteering at the Family Promise Day Center (please contact Debbie Allen at volcoord@familypromisewake.org) or by assisting with our hosting opportunities. We need numerous volunteers to help make Hayes Barton a warm, inviting home for our visitors during their stay. Our new family bathrooms and clean, well-lighted spaces in the Well were envisioned with our Family Promise guests in mind. Our next host week starts December 11 and we ask you to consider volunteering to help. Please contact Lisa or Nelson Brugh at nbrugh@gmail.com or 919-302-5055. You may sign up to help at our next host week at hbumc.org/signups.
