Summer 2018

Hello Dear Friends,

Hope this message finds you well and coping with the heat. Whew! Bring on the cold lemonade and watermelon, please. We send you a special thank you for your regular prayers and needed encouragement in this ministry to refugee and immigrant families.

Despite the stress and strain of on-going US policy associated with immigrants and sponsored refugees we continue to welcome new arrivals and new neighbors. In fact, we have reached quite a milestone in our ministry. This month we received our 200th guest, 2 year old Moses. He arrived with his family the week of the 4th of July. Both his name and the timing of his family coming to America speak volumes to the Great Rescue Plan that God our Father continues to grant day and night around the world.

According to the United Nations we are witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record. 68.5 million People around the world have been forced from their homes. Among them are nearly 25.4 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. Moses, his brother and 5 sisters are among those numbered. In a world where nearly 1 person is forcibly displaced every two seconds as a result of conflict or persecution we are compelled to help.

Our cherished partnership with you provides Moses and his family a safe place to rest and catch their breath after the long journey they have undertaken in search of hope and home. Thank you for helping make Welcome House a reality. When their apartment is available in coming days volunteers like you will help us furnish it. We will furnish it with lightly used household items from folks just like you who want to share with refugees starting over. Thank you for helping.

Then together we will stand alongside Moses’ family as they navigate new lives here as our neighbors in ‘the Land of the Free’. Thank you for praying for vulnerable families like those we welcome. And thank you for giving generously to the CBF Offering for Global Missions, CBFNC and our ministry too –

It takes as little as $10 a day to share clean and safe lodging for families at Welcome House.

When praying for our ministries this summer please remember these requests:

1. Pray that when we share our stories and make our appeals Christians will respond. Visit http://www.cbf.net/immigration-refugee/ to learn more.

2. And for friends like Mujib, a resident at Welcome House, who are experiencing the love of God through word and deed.

3. Celebrate with us all the work that has been done to renovate Welcome House. Now the house has 5 bedrooms, three full bathrooms and two living/meeting rooms.

4. Please pray for the ministry in local neighborhoods where we provide English as a Second Language, Pre-school Readiness, Homework Clubs and recreation.

5. Remember our new friends as they move on from Welcome House to their own first home in the United States of America.
